Today, I’m going to discuss which is…
“Excuse me.” Mr. Skeptical rudely waves his hands in the air, yelling, “Explain the picture.”
After rolling my eyes, “I wanted to show that despite my fractured pinky toe, I still maintained my fitness and six-pack. And it’s all natural.”
“Your face is a smirk. Who are you smirking at?”
“When this picture was taken, I was thinking of you. Do you remember what you suggested when I first fractured my pinky toe?”
Mr. Skeptical’s eyes bulge. “I was kidding around.”
I tilt my head questioningly, “Where you, thou?”
See what Mr. Skeptical suggested here.

Today, I’m stating that bands are superior to weights, especially to anyone over 40 years old. I always recommend using more bands over more weight. It’s safer, and it creates variable resistance.
“Hold on, hold on.” Interrupts Mr. Skeptical. “A lot of these bands simply look wimpy. Like you can’t get a good workout with them.”
“I used to think the same thing. I tried bands a few years ago and didn’t get the same feeling I did with weights. However, stronger, more durable bands have hit the market, and I’ve changed my mind.”
“Yeah, well, I’m not convinced.”
“Of course. You’re impossible to convince on anything.”

In the above pic, I’m at my weakest point during a chest press. With my shoulders stretched back, at this point, I’m most prone to injury. I’m also using a black band wrapped around the equipment. The weight is only 55 lbs, not a lot, which is better because this is my weak zone. People think when they bench press with weights only that they are doing their actual max, but they aren’t. You’re only lifting what you can to escape the weak zone.
Subconscious Fat at Eye-Level
When using the band, the resistance increases as I get out of my weak zone. This creates a superior workout because as I get stronger, the band gets harder. Band resistance rises in the safer zone, making injuries less likely.
“Do people really hurt themselves when doing a chest press?” Asks Mr. Skeptical.
“The chest press is very similar to a bench press, and I had a client who had previously torn his chest muscle doing a bench press. So yes, they can.”
Mr. Skeptical folds his arms, shaking his head and pouting his lips.
He’s such an asshole.
Practical Suggestions and Conclusions
Anyone over 40 should start using bands more to get a better and safer workout. The human body is not adapted to lifting something with variable resistance. Your innate intelligence is accustomed to elevating something with a stable weight. However, with resistance bands, the resistance increases as one performs the exercise. This sort of freaks the body out. Your innate intelligence isn’t used to it, making your body adapt more. More adaptation equals faster muscle growth.
“Yeah, but I don’t buy it. Besides, I like the feeling of lifting something heavy. It makes me feel manly. People watch you at the gym lifting heavy weights and think, ‘Wow, he’s strong!”
I won’t even acknowledge Mr. Skeptical’s stupid, insecure remarks. Don’t be like him. Be smart, especially if you’re over the age of 40, and give bands a try.
Be aware.
Hey Hermann, I just finished reading you article—-excellent!!!!!!——-Iam convinced—-welcome bands to my word!!!!!!!
