My Handyman Died. And I Can't Stop Thinking About Our Last Conversation.

He knew he needed to lose weight. Then “later” suddenly wasn't an option.

My handyman died.

He wasn’t a close friend or a family member. But he was someone I knew.

He’d been inside my apartment many times. He worked on my bathroom. He fixed things around my place. I’d make him coffee with monk fruit while he worked, and we’d talk.

He was a nice guy.

He was also significantly overweight.

I remember telling him once what I do for a living—that I help men get their weight under control and improve their fitness.

He knew.

“I know, I know. I need to lose weight.”

But there was always later.

Then I found out that he had died from an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

I cannot tell you that his weight caused his aneurysm or caused it to rupture. I wasn’t his doctor, and that would be an assumption.

What I can tell you is that research has found an association between excess body fat—particularly abdominal obesity—and a greater risk of aortic aneurysm.

And what I can’t stop thinking about is that conversation.

“I know. I need to lose weight.”

How many of us know?

We know we should lose the belly.
We know we should exercise.
We know we should get our blood pressure checked.
We know we should take better care of ourselves.

But later.

And that’s why the image in this video hit me so hard:

I’LL FOCUS ON ME LATER.

Today is Labor Day—a holiday built around work.

Maybe it’s also a good day to remember that your body is the thing that has to carry you through all that work.

Your career matters. Your business matters. Providing for your family matters.

But so do you.

Don’t wait for a diagnosis, a heart attack, an aneurysm—or some other catastrophic event—to finally make your health a priority.

You don’t have to change everything tomorrow.

Just stop saying later.

And if you’re a man over 40 who’s finally ready to do something about it, reach out to me. I’ll sit down with you for a complimentary fitness strategy session and help you figure out where to start.

Because there’s one thing none of us knows:

How many “laters” we have left.

Be aware.
